EULEX to resolve fate of kidnapped, missing persons
BELGRADE, Dec 9. (Tanjug). The international non-government organisation for human rights protection Amnesty International (AI) has called on EULEX, which officially began its mandate in Kosovo and Metohija on Tuesday, to resolve the fate of over 3,000 missing and kidnapped persons and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
We call for a speedy implementation of the measures that would resolve the issue of war crimes and violation of human rights, Director of the organisation's Europe and Central Asia Programme Nicola Duckworth said in a statement.
Ten years after the war in Kosovo the mission which is headed by EULEX is supposed to ensure that the relatives of over 3,000 missing and kidnapped persons learn the truth about their dearest ones and that the perpetrators of these crimes be brought to justice, Duckworth added.
The AI said in the statement that more than 1.500 cases of war crimes had not been resolved and that hundreds, if not thousands, such cases had yet to be investigated, pointing out that the EULEX Mission should focus on providing justice for the victims of all the parties involved.
