International conference on fighting corruption to open in Athens

TBILISI, October 30 /GHN/. The international conference on fighting corruption will open in Athens on October 30. The conference is initiated by the Transparency International NGO (TI).

Participating in the forum will be representatives from 130 countries.

The forum participants will discuss how corruption prevents states from development.

“Our goal is to find the answer to the most burning questions of the present time: why fighting corruption is needed for viable future? How corruption increases peoples' exposure? How corruption threatens energy supplies and increases consequences of climate change?” the greeting to the forum participants from TI president Huguette Labelle reads.

Vice-President of the European Commission Siim Kallas is supposed to participate in the conference as well as Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis, Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew I and other political and public figures.

The forum will last till November 2.
