Voting in Sevastopol active, calm

KYIV, January 17. /UKRINFORM/. The Ukrainian presidential elections are going calm and with high voter turnout in Sevastopol (Crimea, southern Ukraine).

The reporters learned this on Sunday from Sevastopol City State Administration Head Serhiy Kunitsyn.

“The election is tranquil, and the voters are active as never before. Under the latest reports, 11% of the city residents had cast their votes by 10 a.m.,” Kunitsyn said.

He said the problem of voters in Sevastopol having two passports (Ukrainian and Russian), allegedly to enable Russian Black Sea Fleet servicemen to vote, was thought out.

“The problem was largely exaggerated. Even if there are some cases, they are not mass,” he emphasized.

The Mayor said a big job had been done before the polls, and introduction of the voters' register played its positive role. Thus, the number of voters on the lists, despite the growth of the local population, has been cut by almost 3,000.

In all, the Central Election Commission says, Sevastopol has about 303,500 voters.
