Istanbul hosts regional meeting on disaster preparedness

ISTANBUL, November 19. (A.A). A regional meeting on disaster preparedness and prevention launched Wednesday in Istanbul, bringing together civil defense authorities from countries in southeastern Europe.

The 19th regional meeting of the Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Initiative (DPPI) of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe is hosted by Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate.

The Initiative was launched in 2000 in an effort to contribute to the development of a cohesive regional strategy for disaster preparedness and prevention.

The DPPI seeks to provide a framework for South Eastern European nations to develop programs and projects leading to strengthened capabilities in preventing and responding to natural and man-made disasters.

Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Greece, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia and Turkey are the members of the DPPI.
